Source-based research, not a personal playthrough. This summary uses official premise material and published plot analysis. The Murkle audio has not been independently transcribed here; that limitation must not be mistaken for the game having no answer.
The journey
The world is clay and the night does not end. Fire is scarce, and creatures follow Potboy’s flame. You wake without eyes or ears, receive them, and escort him through Nobodyville, Coalhaven, the Craftsman’s Heart and the Dark, then up Moon Mountain. Store copy calls that five tales. The select screen has six cards.
Two towns
- Nobodyville is a village of disembodied heads defined by old sins. The Headmaster rewards you after the Molgrim is calmed.
- Coalhaven was destroyed by a revenge that hit the wrong target. You reassemble the Thief and put a ghost to rest.
- Housy, the walking house, is home. Potboy burns it in chapter 5. It survives into chapter 6.
Fire has two roles: Potboy's flame provides safety and companionship, but also attracts creatures and can cause harm. Reading that contrast as grief, hope or the danger of self-sacrifice is interpretation, not a separate hidden quest. The 15 Murkle story pages/reels add a collected story through Housy's projector; they are not a branching-ending requirement.
Who took the sun away?
Dot Esports attributes the lost light to the Maker in an article explicitly presented as an interpretation of the endings. This is a sourced reading, not a developer-confirmed culprit identification. The previous claim that every verified source left the question unanswered was too strong. This page does not reconstruct an unverified creation myth from the collectible title alone.
Questions
Who took the sun away?
Dot Esports' interpretation names the Maker. The complete Murkle recording has not been independently checked here, so this is attributed analysis rather than a claim that the game never explains it.
Is there one canon ending?
Burn and Stop are both documented. No developer-designated canon choice was found in the sources used here; see the outcome comparison on the endings page.
Is this the same story as Little Nightmares?
No. The comparison page is about tone and structure, not a shared plot.
