Research, not a headset comparison. Official listings confirm optional VR; the comfort impressions below belong to UploadVR’s reviewer, not this site. We did not test eye tracking, controllers or save compatibility.
Flat and VR, side by side
| Setup | Playable? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| PS5 flat | Yes | Default. DualSense vibration and triggers. |
| PSVR2 | Optional | Sitting or standing. Eye tracking can close your eyes. |
| PC flat | Yes | Steam and GOG. Gamepad recommended. |
| PCVR | Optional | Index, Quest via link, Rift S, Rift listed by Steam. |
| Quest as its own app | No | Streaming a PC build is not a Quest version. |
| Switch 2 | Flat only | No VR mode. |
UploadVR’s comfort list includes smooth or snap turn, vignette levels, a head-bob toggle, subtitle sizes and haptic strength. They scored the VR version 4/5 and called it their preferred way to play. That is a review, not a requirement. Some players report OpenXR crashes; those posts are user reports, not a studio fix list.
Questions
Can I play The Midnight Walk on PS5 without PSVR2?
Yes. The flat version is the default.
Is there a Meta Quest version?
No standalone Quest build. A Quest can be a PCVR display through a link.
Does VR add levels?
No. The chapters are the same. VR changes how you hold matches and how you close your eyes.
